German Art: 1960s - 1990s
11 July 1997- 21 September 1997

This exhibition featured works by the most significant German artists such as Joseph Beuys, Gerhard Richter, Georg Baselitz and Sigmar Polke. Art movements such as Fluxus, Conceptual art and Neo-Expressionsim merged in German art in the 1960s. Fluxus wanted to bring together art and life instead of separating them. The Neo-Expressionsits freed themselves from the trend of abstract art while at the same time scorned the realistic. These artists created the ground for a re-emergence and a recognition of a German art which reflected their cultural heritage and spiritual position.
