The 2008 International Conference on Records and Archives, organised by National Archives of Singapore, was successfully held on 17 and 18 July at Asian Civilisations Museum, Singapore. The theme of this conference was 'Power of Collective Memory and Evidence' and attended by 191 local and overseas participants. The 2-day event programme was power packed with intellectual stimulating presentations by twelve leading experts from Australia, Canada, China, Indonesia, Singapore and United States as well as the World Bank. The highlight of the conference was the renewal of our archival collaboration with the State Archives Administration of China (SAAC). Signed by Mr Pitt Kuan Wah, Director of NAS, and Mr Yang Dongquan, Director-General of SAAC, and witnessed by Mr Sim Gim Guan, Deputy Secretary (Information and Corporate Management), Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts, and China’s ambassador to Singapore, Mdm Zhang Xiaokang, the signing marks a continued commitment towards professional initiatives and exchanges between archivists from Singapore and China.
After the signing of renewal of agreement, DG Yang calligraphed the Chinese characters of Memories at Old Ford Factory (MOFF), and presented it to NAS as a gift.
